Team USA is searching for gold on the diamond.
USA Baseball hopes to strike gold on Saturday morning, securing the country’s second Olympic gold medal in a knockout-stage rematch against host country Japan.
The U.S. bats came alive vs. South Korea, putting up a crooked number late in the game, pushing the Koreans to a bronze-medal matchup with the Dominican Republic on Friday night. Tyler Austin, Mark Kolozsvary and Jack Lopez plated runs in the sixth inning rally, helping secure the semifinal victory.
Now, the United States hopes to gain a measure of revenge against Japan — only, this time, with much higher stakes.
Sporting News will be providing live updates, highlights and more from baseball’s gold-medal game.
