“Big Ben” may need a new nickname heading into the 2021 season.
The Steelers quarterback has always been one of the bigger QBs in the league, both in height and girth. But as he gets up there in age, Roethlisberger may be giving his diet and weight more consideration.
According to a report from former NBC Sports and ESPN host Ryan Burr, Roethlisberger, 39, is purely focused on his diet and bringing down his weight heading into the 2021 NFL season.
“Ben will never mention the beating he has taken in the media but says from a dedication standpoint has never seen anything from Ben close to this in past. Source say obsessed with diet & workouts. “ https://t.co/xiezHzYrUj

“Ben will never mention the beating he has taken in the media but says from a dedication standpoint has never seen anything from Ben close to this in past,” Burr says on Twitter. “Source say obsessed with diet & workouts.”
The Steelers, who did little to address the quarterback position this offseason — they took a flyer on former first-rounder Dwayne Haskins — would likely welcome a reinvigorated and slimmer Roethlisberger heading into the 2021 season.
Roethlisberger has taken a beating in his career, with a knee injury threatening his availability last year. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Roethlisberger has arthritis in both knees, so taking some weight off will only prove beneficial.
With no clear successor plan in place, Roethlisberger will be the man — or half of one, if he did, in fact, slim down a bit.
